This one is a very long and on going question.

I have M1 Carbine Saginaw SG 3356xxx ,which has a stamping on it that is out of the ordinary.

It looks like this.

I have followed a few avenues , like Z Special (a WW2 unit) and possibly this may lead to a Bavarian marking?

Does anyone have any light that they can shed on this mystery?

Cheers

Alex

I've got the same mark on my Rock'ola, would be interested in knowing what it is.

Yippee, finally another one Shocked

And it's on a different maker Question that adds to the puzzle.

Is it in the same place? and are you aware if it's had a rebuild?

As I mentioned earlier I went down the z special unit avenue, even talked to a vet of the unit, but he states they actually removed all the markings from their weapons Exclamation

Do you have any history on your one, IE can you track it's ownership?

Is there any chance you can get a pic of your marking to me?

I have seen another one today, it appears to be in a similar place to mine and the same size, would be keen to see what you mark looks like.

Cheers

Here is the photo from Hillbilly Bob, looks interesting, I will have to get some more details from you about the rest of the markings on this one, serial, other markings etc, to see how it compares to mine.
I will E-mail you for some more detail, unless you feel comfortable adding it here.

Cheers

Alex

Once I figure out how to use this site, I will become more literate.
That must be some kind of armory stamp, surely.
Mikey, what do you think?
Cheers, Robbie.

IBM s/n 3820122
Barrel: IBM undated
Stock: type III, has a U and a 2nd letter that is illegible
Rear sight: adjustable
Safety: push button
Barrel Band: type IA

Stock has been heavily lacquered and has several non-GI approved repairs by use of small wood inserts. Buttplate is non-GI.

The barrel has the import mark "CAI ST A, VT", meaning Century Arms International, St. Albans, VT. Century Arms has not been in St. Albans since the early 90's. They've imported carbines into the USA from all over the planet, wherever they could find them.

Bottom of trigger housing has what looks like the letter T stamped (see pic). Bolt is a flat bolt, but, looks nickle plated.

This carbine was sold at an auction in the USA in summer 2007. Seller claimed it was a Bavarian carbine, but it has no Bavarian markings, nor does it have the 3 or 4 last digits of the serial number on various parts. I think someone told him it was a Bavarian because of the lacquered stock. I've seen a lot of Bavarians, none have had a lacquered stock like this one.

Hey Mike, does this buttplate look like the one on that black M2 stock you had?

I will endeavour to get this sorted for you over the Xmas break Mike.

Isn't it funny how it goes for so long without a lead, then they all start popping up.

Cheers
