PostSubject: WTT Standard Products magazine   Thu Sep 27, 2007 12:26 am

I have been gioing through my mags, matching them to my guns, and have a spare 15 round Standard Products mag with the plain base plate. It is marked (S P) on the back and has about 85% original blued finish. I would like to trade it for a similar condition mag that is marked for Saginaw Steering Gear. That would be any mag marked KSG, SG, OI-SG, etc.

Hello Woodsy

The magazine you have was manufactured by Saginaw S'G' plant - not Standard products.
Standard Products never marked mags S P

Wish I could help you, but I don't have any Saginaw Gear marked mags

Regards

The evidence is inconclusive for SP mags. What is known, is that the first letter indicates manufacturer, in this case, S, indicates Seymore Products. A sub-contractor. The second letter indicates who they,(Seymore), made it for. So SS would be a more likely marking for a Standard Products mag. SP could be Seymore for Pedersen but it has not been confirmed (On the evidence that I have available to date). SP could also mean quite simply, Seymore Products, and therefore it could have been sent to any of the prime manufacturers. It is nice to have the correct mag in a particular Carbine, but about a zillion mags were floating around in the field so when they opened the boxes anything could have ended up with anything. Opinions welcomed. Mike.

Hello Mikey51

Yes I think you are right (again).
I was armed with my new copy of: U.S. M1 CARBINES Wartime Production By Craig Riesch and thought I suddenly knew it all.

Seems its list of magazine codes may not be so accurate

I checked on http://www.rawles.to/M1_Carbine_Mag_FAQ.html
and SP is listed there as a Standard Products code

Sorry Woodsy - I may have had the wrong information

Regards to all
