How To Update Your Profile

Once you have registered you may choose to make your posts more personalised.

In the following pages I will run through the different features that appear in your profile page, which can change the way your posts look on the forum.

Firstly we will look at the main page of your profile.

You will need to login first, then you click on the “Profile” button, as shown in the red square at the top of the page shown below.

Tutorial Updateprofile1

By clicking on this you will be taken to a screen like this.

Tutorial Updateprofile2

This is the main information page, here you can add information that will appear on your posts.

At the top of this page you will see a box that says Registration information, you do not need to modify and of the details in this box to add items to your profile, this section is only for changing your password if you require to do this.

Probably the most useful field on this page is the Location field (shown in the larger red box.

What you put in here will appear under your user name in your posts.

Like this.

Tutorial Updateprofile14

If you choose to add other items to this page, it will be referenced on your posts page so others on the forum know more about you, and have more ways of contacting you.

All of these options are optional but I would recommend the location field as it makes it much easier for other forum users to know where you are from.

Click on the save button of the screen and your changes will be updated.

Next we will look at the Preferences page.

To get to this you just click on the preferences tab at the top of the profile page,

It looks like this.

Tutorial Updateprofile3

The most important field to check here is that the time zone is set correctly.

It is shown in the lower red box, if the time in the box does not show the current time before GMT, just click on the arrow next to it and a list will appear for you to just click on the line that includes the current time.

Click the save at the bottom of the screen and you selections will be updated.

Next we will look at the signature tab.

If you click on the “Signature” tab at the top 0of the Profile page you will get a screen that looks like this.

Tutorial Updateprofile4

What ever you enter in this field will appear at the bottom of all posts you make, once you click on Always attach my signature: box to yes in the Preferences tab I motioned earlier.

Preview what it will look like by clicking preview at the bottom of the screen and if you are happy with it click save and you will have a signature.

Next is the Avatar page, setting this up will add a small picture under your username on all posts you make.

After you have added an Avatar, if you choose to change it all posts you have made on the forum will have the avatar updated to the new one you choose.

When you click on the Avatar tab at the top of the Profile screen you will be taken to a page that looks like this.

Tutorial Updateprofile5

As the middle red bow say’s, the picture you use for your avatar needs to be quite small.

You can either choose to add a picture of your own, or one from the gallery.

To add a gallery Avatar just click on the “show Gallery” box and select the picture you want and click save.
If you choose to add a photo of your own, you will probably need to edit the photo first.

I will attempt to show how to do this, but it requires a program that is capable of doing this for you.

I will show an example using Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

Firstly I would recommend making a copy of the picture you want too use as once it is edited to fit as an avatar it is hard to return it to its original size and quality.

To create a copy just right mouse button click on the photo you want and select copy.

Then right mouse click again and select paste and a copy of the photo will be saved in the same location as the original.

Next step is to right mouse button click on the copy photo and select “open with and select Windows Office Picture Manager, if Microsoft Office Picture Manager is not listed you will need to find an alternative program to resize your picture.

Making the selection will look like this.

Tutorial Updateprofile6

You will get a screen that looks like this.

Tutorial Updateprofile7

Click on the Edit picture box as shown in the red square at the top of the screen and you will get a screen that looks like this.

Tutorial Updateprofile8

Click on the Resize button as shown by the red box and you will get a screen like this.

Just click in the custom height x width circle (as per the red circle), and type 150 in the first of the box’s shown in the top red box.

Click Ok (the bottom red box) and it will look like this.

Tutorial Updateprofile12

Next hold down the “Ctrl” key on your keyboard, and tap the “s” key on your keyboard, and your size changes will be saved.

Close the Microsoft Office Picture Manager window, and return to your profile page and the avatar tab.

Click the Browse button and it will look like this.

Tutorial Updateprofile13

Select the picture you resized and click Open, it will now be downloaded to your profile when you click save at the bottom of the screen.

Lastly is the Topics watched Tab.

This one is self explanatory once you are in it, the only explanation needed is that when you post a topic or reply to a topic the forum will select to send you an E-Mail to advise you another member has posted in the same topic as you.

You can choose to stop watching a topic, or start watching a topic you haven’t posted in as well, but how to do this will be covered in Navigating around the Forum

Good luck with updating your profile.
